Q&A
How do I know if my floors need sanding?

The weather in the northeast (Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont) can be harsh on our floors.  Hardwood floors tend to expand and contract throughout the seasons due to the dry air and moisture.  After a few years this expansion and contraction of hard wood floors can cause the flooring to become uneven.

Another factor causing the need for sanding of your hardwood floors is in high traffic areas of the home.  Older finish can change color over time and have a yellow or even orange look to them.  You may also see scratches, scuffs, or gouges in your wood floors.

Some of our customers do not require a full removal of the old finish on their floors.  B&L Hardwood Floors is sometimes able to recondition the wood floor, which is a faster and less expensive process to revive the new look and feel to your hardwood floor.

Will I have to leave my home?

B&L Hardwood Floors does not require that you leave your home during the process.  We do ask that you limit the amount of traffic while we are working in a specific room.  We will let you know if a room cannot be entered due to finishes needing to dry on the hardwood floors.

Will I need to move furniture?

We do need the furniture removed from the room in order to begin the work.  We have also worked around specific situations when necessary.  We can come in early and help with planning or moving as necessary to make the hardwood floor project go smoothly for you.

Will I have a lot of dust in my home?

We close off adjoining rooms with plastic to ensure the dust stays as contained as possible.  We also use equipment with vacuums that help to remove dust from the air.  We respect your home as if it were our own and thus we keep the areas as clean as possible.
